Tourism Minister Francisco Javier Garcia, said the sector continues a record sustained growth, of 9 percent in July, compared with the same month last year, when 619,724 tourist arrived in the country by air, or 51,401 additional visitors.
He said among other factors, the growth result from ads and promotion campaigns together with the private sector. He said tourism had a cumulative growth of 6.9 percent in the first seven months compares with the last year, receiving 3,662,878 visitors, or 235,792 more tourists.
Punta Cana International Airport again led in arrivals with 2,134,653 foreign nonresident visitors, or 6.6% higher and 66.9% of the total tourists, followed by Las Americas was 544,728, or 6.6% higher and 17.1% of the total, and Puerto Plata at 268,512, or 6.8% more, and 8.4% of the total.
